Southern Minnesota's Real Big Band
Keeping the tradition of big band jazz music alive and well in southern Minnesota!

Welcome to the home of the Real Big Band!

RBB Group Shot

The Real Big Band, established in 1998, has a full 4-4-5-5 instrumentation plus vocalist. About half the members are band directors, the other half coming from a variety of occupations - 19 of southern Minnesota's top jazzers performing a wide variety of contemporary jazz.

We perform to help promote jazz as America's art form, to keep jazz alive, and to enjoy playing and sharing this great music!

The Real Big Band (RBB) performs a wide variety of music, from the libraries of such notable artists as Gordon Goodwin, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Maynard Ferguson and more!

The RBB rehearses in Waseca and performs several times a year at school concerts, jazz festivals, etc.

"New Orleans is the only place I know of where you ask a little kid what he wants to be and instead of saying 'I want to be a policeman,' or 'I want to be a fireman,' he says, 'I want to be a musician.'"
